Orphan Education

Orphan School Build Complete!

We are delighted to announce the completion of Orphan School in the rural village of Bumbwini located on the Tanzanian Island of Zanzibar, which is a historic island, having been the metropolis for slavery and spice, and until recently ruled by the Oman Sultans. Centuries on, its people are the victims of poverty, living on less than £1 a day.

The school has the capacity to serve some 260 children and will double up as school and a madrasah for orphans of both villages. Prior the school being built the children studied under dire conditions, some under trees others in open shelters. They had no tables, pens and pads and worked with slates and chaulk.

Sadakah Continues...

The school has 4 classrooms adjoined by a courtyard. It has external toilets and is on large plot of land surrounded by flat land for children to play. The school has now been running since January 2014. There are over 200 children who attend our school. We support the school and provide daily breakfast for the children, who often come to school hungry.

We now have 4 subject teachers and 4 assistants. We have managed to raise enough funds for furniture and have installed 70 two-man benches.

How can you help?

We still need your help to buy books for students, school bags, and generally help maintain the school. You can either donate monthly or support a child's education for as little as £50 for the entire year. This will help pay for a child's fees, books and uniform.

This is an investment in orphan education and sadaqa jariya. The reward for investing in children and orphans is second to none.  It is narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) said that acquisition of knowledge is a must for every Muslim boy and girl.

In another Hadith it is narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) said,

"the best of you is one who gives a good education (intellectual and moral) to his children."

But the return on the investment in the education of children whose lives are not as fortunate as ours, is immeasurable. The virtue of looking after the affairs of orphan children is also well established and is an oft-quoted hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah (RA) who said the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said,

“He who takes care of an orphan, whether he is his relative or a stranger, will be in Jannah with me like these two”. The narrator, Malik bin Anas raised his forefinger and middle finger for illustration. [Muslim]
