GIVE WATER FOR LIFE
Every two minutes, a child under five dies from diarrhoea caused by contaminated water
Africa – 190 Million
children at risk
Zanzibarians are forced to rely on contaminated water sources, which leads to serious health problems. Women and children walk miles in search of water.
The Al-Ansari Foundation has been drilling water wells to get access to clean water to large communities for over a decade.
These wells have become a lifeline for the people of Zanzibar, serving over 160,000 people. This dedicated effort aims to alleviate the challenges faced by the poor, in pursuit of sustainable water access for a better future.

Build a water well
The cost of a deep bore hole water well is £2,500. This includes an electric motorised pump, 4 water taps, a 5,000 litre tank, a personalised plaque with your name (or loved one), a Google location and images of the well, video footage of opening ceremony and beneficiaries.
Borehole wells are deep holes dug into the ground that are used to access underground water sources. We have a specialist team that use hydraulic machinery that drill up to depths of 120m ensuring that the water source is not only the purest, but it also has an endless supply.
5 Step Water Well Process
Building a water well is a transformative project that directly impacts communities by providing access to clean and safe water. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how the process works, from start to finish.
Fundraising
The first step involves raising £2,500 to construct the water well. We help you create a personalised fundraising page and launch a campaign to share with friends, family, and social media. All contributions go directly toward making clean water accessible for those in need.

Location Selection
Once funding is secured, our team identifies the best possible location. We prioritize communities with the most urgent need for clean water. Choosing the right location is essential as the well will provide a lasting resource for the community.

Drilling Process
With the location set, the drilling process begins. Our team uses advanced equipment to drill deep enough to access clean groundwater. Precision and expertise are key in this step to ensure the well taps into a sustainable water source.

Construction
After drilling, we move on to constructing the well. This includes installing essential infrastructure like pumps and making sure the water is safe, clean, and accessible for the community to use. To honor your generosity, a *personalised plaque* with a name and a short message of your choice will be placed at the water well tower, symbolising your impactful contribution.

Opening ceremony
Once the well is completed, we host an official opening ceremony with the local community. This event marks the start of a new era, where clean water becomes available to all. You’ll receive updates throughout the process, along with photos documenting the well’s construction and the ceremony.

Why Donate a Water Well?
Providing water wells is a continuous form of sadaqa for as long as the well supplies water – even after one’s death. It is narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said there are “Seven deeds for which deeds are written for a person even after he dies in his grave, among them is digging a well.”- Sahih Al-Targheeeb
Donors will be a part of the entire process of their water well
